Dancing is gracious and requires strength and precision.
At Allsports and family podiatry we often recommend dancing for strength and coordination in our young athelets.
Together with strengthening the body, emphasis in dancing is placed on stretching and balance which is an important part of develpoing and growing.
Each dancer develops at diffentet rates, in skill and developmentally and therefore each dancer may require different stretches and activities to perfect their dance performance.
It is important to realize that through development the body has limitations and this should be monitored according to the individual.
Injuries are common in dance if technique is incorrect or ovetraining occures, which is not unlike other sports.
We often see what is called developmental injuries through diffent age groups of growing.
Dance shoes certainly complicate foot mechanics as they need to be very light in weight and very flexible which unfortunalty sacrifices stablity of the shoes.
At Allsports and Family Podiatry we strive to work with the dancers shoes to improve function and advise foot strengthening exersises.
