Conditions
Plantar Plate Tear
Plantar plate is a thick ligament that originates from the metatarsal head and attaches to the proximal phalanx. A plantar plate tear can result in pain and swelling under the ball of the foot. The affected toe may deviate from the normal position.
Treatments include taping, padding, footwear modification, orthotics and injection therapy. In more serious cases, surgery may be indicated.
